Mount Pleasant Football Netball Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Weightman to the role of senior playing co-coach for the 2023 season, adding more support for first year playing coach Adam Baird.
This season, in a first for the club, Mounts appointed their long-term senior coach, Darren Walsh, to the role of Director of Coaching to lead the club as a whole and provide mentor support & guidance to all football grades, coaches & players.
“Adam & Darren have been fantastic leaders energising our club’s young list through the pre-season. Adam, leading by example with his training standards & on-field play and Darren with his mentoring and game day role, have got the Blues off to a great start this season.” Mounts Co-President Phil Whiting said.
“With such a young playing list we want to provide as much support to our players and our coaching staff”, Whiting said. “Guiding a senior group as young as ours is a big job and we don’t want to overload our coacheswho are also very busy with their own young families and careers. At Mounts we want to share the load and make it easier to develop our young players in the search for improvement. We believe adding Ben as a playing co-coach will develop his own footy CV and provide extra gameday support for Adam. We are excited to see how together they can achieve more.”
“Since joining Mount Pleasant back in 2018 Ben has been an exceptional on field leader providing guidance and encouragement to our players. The collective experience of Adam & Ben, who are both quality people & talented footballers, supported by Darren’s extensive experience, will provide us with the best opportunity to achieve our goal of improving in 2023.” Whiting said.
Mounts have a very young list with two thirds of their senior players being local juniors who have played 3rdgrade football for the club and more than half the club’s senior playing list is aged 22 or younger.
This year Mounts are also fielding 3 junior teams in the Bendigo Junior Football League (under 9’s, under 10’s & under 12 girls), our youthful enthusiasm & developing junior programme offers a very bright future for our 135 year old club.
